CHICAGO, IL, September 30, 2022 - Marist High School, Chicago’s premier coed Catholic college preparatory high school, held a dedication ceremony for its new scoreboard in honor of the late Jack Roche ’17. With support from the Jack “Coach” Roche Scholarship Fund and Wintrust Financial, as well as a number of other donors, the scoreboard will carry on Jack’s legacy and love of school spirit.

The scoreboard dedication ceremony took place during the pre-game of Marist’s Homecoming Game against Marmion Academy last Friday, September 23, 2022. Joining President Larry Tucker for the event at the 50-yard line were Kevin Hughes, speaking on behalf of the family, 50 family members and friends of the Roches, and over 100 classmates from the graduating class of 2017, as well as nearly 3,000 spectators. Additionally, Marist’s very own, Brother Rich Grenier offered a prayer for the ceremony and the game, as well as asked for a moment of silence in Jack Roche’s honor.

About Jack "Coach" Roche - In July of 2020, Chicago’s Southside lost one of our best when University of Kansas student Jack “Coach” Roche was tragically killed in a traffic accident. Jack was entering his senior year at the University of Kansas, where he served as a manager on the football team. Jack was a proud Alumni of St. Catherine of Alexandria (’13) and Marist High School (’17). Jack’s legacy, IS ONE OF selflessness, hard work, kindness, and school spirit. May his spirit and love for Marist live on in us all.

The Roche Family Foundation offers a Jack “Coach” Roche Scholarship to 8th grade students at St. Catherine of Alexandria who will be attending Marist High School, Marist High School Seniors who are athletic managers, and University of Kansas students.

Additionally, last November, the University of Kansas’ Football Program shared a story honoring Jack’s legacy as a reliable, selfless, and hardworking student manager. To read the entire piece 'Great wingman’ Jack Roche’s Legacy Lives On, click here.

Marist High School joins the Roche Family and so many others to ensure Jack’s shining star never fades.
