Marist High School announced that Renee Chimino '08 will be the new head girls' basketball coach.

Welcome Home

Chimino comes back to Marist from the Chicago Park District, where she ran a recreation program for kids and adults with disabilities and coached Special Olympics sports. Prior to that, Chimino was a part of the girls' basketball program as an assistant and lower-level head coach for 7 years. During her time as head sophomore coach, Renee's team went 26-0.

"After my initial departure from Marist as an assistant, I remained a fan coming to as many games as my schedule allowed and keeping in contact with all Marist coaches and alumni." Chimino said. "When Mary Pat retired I saw a great opportunity to achieve a dream of mine and to not only maintain the Marist girls' basketball identity but grow this program even more."

During her time as a student at Marist, Chimino helped her team secure Marist's first sectional championship and run in the IHSA Final Four. She is a life long south sider, growing up in the Mount Greenwood neighborhood and attending Queen of Martyrs for grammar school. After graduating from Marist, Chimino attend UIC for college before working for Chicago Public Schools and most recently the Chicago Park District.

Chimino will be the second ever girls' basketball head coach at Marist. Mary Pat Connolly served as the head coach from 2002- 2022.

"Words cannot express how excited I am to be the new Head Coach of Marist Girls Basketball Program." Chimino said. "I am looking forward to helping all these young women succeed and grow their love for the game of basketball."

We are incredibly excited to have Renee back home. Additionally, words cannot express the gratitude we have for the dedication and leadership Coach Mary Pat Connolly has provided throughout her time as head coach. Coach Chimino already has been in action with summer camps. We look forward to an amazing 2022-2023 season.
